Frequently asked questions.

What is ViridianK9s?

ViridianK9s is a volunteer-driven, owner-led dog training community based in Essex & London. We focus on relationship-based training, clear communication, real-world exposure, and building confident dogs through supportive, structured experiences such as pack walks, workshops, classes, and socialisation outings. All costs advertised are purely to cover running costs — everything we do is community-centred, not profit-driven.

Are you qualified dog trainers?

In short, yes but we are passionate, continuously-learning handlers. ViridianK9s is built on real hands-on experience, completed and ongoing study of regulated courses (including Ofqual-regulated diplomas, behavioural courses, and NePoPo® education), and a commitment to transparent learning.
We are not presenting ourselves as fully qualified trainers — we’re honest about being on our learning journey and invite owners who value that openness. We don’t believe every trainer knows everything so we remain open because any dog could come along and teach us something new. Training and behaviour modification is not a one size fits all. Some of us work professionally with dogs already or did in the past!

Do I need to book before attending?

Yes. All walks, workshops, classes, and 1-1 sessions must be booked in advance through our website. This ensures we can manage numbers, plan appropriately, and keep the environment safe.

How do I join the community?

Simply book your first consultation, message us if you have any questions, and start getting involved in pack walks, classes, and discussions. We’re friendly, supportive, and always happy to help.

Why do you need to meet people before joining the community?

Before joining, we like to meet owners (virtually or in person) to understand their dog’s training level and neutrality. This prevents situations we may not yet be equipped to help with and ensures that the activities we offer are right for the dog or if we can help set you up both for success prior to our activities.

Can reactive dogs join?

Yes, many of our members’ dogs are on their own reactivity journeys. We simply ask that:

• If your dog has a history of biting or has severe reactivity then we ask you to use a muzzle
• you disclose any reactivity when booking
• your dog arrives on secure equipment
• you maintain appropriate space

We may also suggest to book an in person consultation to assess(free).
Some events may not be suitable depending on your dog’s needs, but we’ll always guide you honestly.

Do I need my own insurance?

Yes. All owners must have valid Public Liability Insurance for their dog when attending any community event. This is for everyone’s safety and protection. We also offer waivers for individuals.

What happens if my dog struggles during a session?

No judgement. Training isn’t linear.
If your dog needs space or a break, we’ll support you to step aside, reset, or adjust the activity. You are always welcome to observe until your dog is ready.

Can I bring more than one dog?

Sometimes. This depends on the event type. Please check the listing or message us before booking.

What training methods do you use?

We use a variety of training methods because every dog responds differently, and what works for one may not work for another. We also respect each owner’s preferred training style and the techniques they feel align best with their dog.

With backgrounds in both positive-only training and balanced training, we’re able to support and work within either approach—always prioritising communication, welfare, and what is most appropriate for the individual dog.

What is your cancellation policy?

We do not offer refunds. If you cancel your booking, you may transfer it to any other activity of your choice.
If we cancel an event (for example, due to weather or safety concerns), your booking will be transferred to a new date for the same activity.

Are children allowed?

Generally yes, but they must remain under adult supervision at all times. They must be able to walk calmly next to you or you will have to leave until they calm. Some sessions may not be suitable for safety reasons or if there is a dog joining that doesn’t like children and will state this clearly on the booking page.
